IFN-gama is the only member of the type II interferon family, which is mainly secreted by natural killer T cells, CD4 cells and CD8 cells. IFN-γ has antiviral activity and can directly inhibit viral replication. In addition, IFN-γ can also act as a strong activator of macrophages and participate in immune regulation. Abnormal expression of IFN-γ can lead to some autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
